Practical EPC guide
What AI ERP should do for an EPC team
Learn how AI should help EPC teams create records, check project data and move work forward without bypassing controls.

Short answer: A useful AI ERP should work with live, authorised ERP records. It should answer project questions, prepare routine work, ask for missing details and keep normal reviews and approvals in place.
Remember these three points
- Use live ERP context
- Preview important actions
- Keep roles and approvals
Start with the work people do every day
AI is useful when it reduces screen hunting and repeated data entry. An authorised user should be able to ask for a PR, quotation comparison, cost explanation, material check or DPR draft in plain language.
Connect the answer to source records
An AI answer should show where it came from. Users need to open the BOQ item, order, receipt, issue, bill or progress record behind the result.
- Show the project and package context
- Link the source records
- State missing or unclear information
Ask instead of guessing
If a cost head, required date or project reference is missing, the AI should ask a focused question. It should never invent a site fact or commercial term.
Keep control with the business
Financial, contractual and high-impact work needs review. The AI can prepare the action, but the user’s role, mandatory fields, limits and approval workflow must still apply.
Common questions
Is AI ERP the same as adding a chatbot to an ERP?
No. A useful AI ERP works with authorised business records and supported workflows. A separate chatbot without ERP context cannot safely prepare or trace operational work.
Can AI approve purchase orders or expenses by itself?
AI should not bypass configured financial controls. It can prepare a supported record or route it into the normal workflow, while the authorised user or approver remains responsible.
